Gisimba Orphanage

So I just received my placement assignment today - Gisimba Orphanage in Kiagli. Gisimba Memorial Center actually started in the '70's in the Gisimba family home. In 1990 they received the orphanage from a donation and had 26 children. Between 1990 and 1994 Gisimba received 65 children from refugee camps; but after the 1994 genocide they received many, many more. During the genocide the building was only a library and they hid 400 people - 325 children and 75 parents. Today, Gisimba is completely full; they only admit additional children with special circumstances.

I am very much looking forward to meeting the house mothers and the kids. In the mean time, I have found a couple of videos to bring you closer to Gisimba....
